Shannon and Melissa
Secret Cove at Turtle Bay - May 21, 2005
Are you ready to be wowed by some crazy scientific facts! According to recent SCIENTIFIC STUDIES:
- Sustained laughter stimulates an increased release of endorphins - the body's own natural morphine. We feel better when we laugh, because endorphins actually diminish physical and psychological pain.
- Laughter is a natural and invaluable means for strengthening the heart muscle. Additional research has shown that sustained, frequent laughter also helps some people to lower blood pressure.
- "Natural killer cells," which combat both viruses and cancer, increase in number and activity with laughter. In addition, laughter helps to activate the immune system's T-cells, thereby optimizing and balancing the body's immune functions and potentially helpin to fight many types of disease.
In other words, laughing is good for you. I got this from www.laffing-matters.com if anyone is interested. There's something else that these scientist forgot to mention. Laughter is the way to the heart of a woman. In other words, if you can make them laugh, you can basically court, date, and marry them. And I think if you ask any woman, while their man may sometimes not be a comedian, or center of attention at parties, their man...can make them laugh. I realize that this isn't a proven scientific fact, but I can tell you that at all my weddings, the groom never fails to put a big smile on his bride's face.
Now, finding a laid back, funny groom, is one thing. Finding a bride who can match his wit is very rare. Well, enter Melissa and Shannon, a very witty and funny couple fit for a sitcom! While they could be employed in Hollywood...both Shannon and Melissa actually work Washington D.C as professional artist. D.C., by the way, is the only place in the country where you get taxed without representation. (You are sure learning a lot today!!)
Melissa is more of the computer type of graphic artist, and Shannon, well, he's more of a hands on guy. Paints are his thing. Melissa by the way, told me that she prefers film over digital because the quality and consistency of the prints are a lot better than digital photographs. Film should always be the standard.
So, Shannon and Melissa actually hopped on an airplane and D.C. and flew all the way to Hawaii, to elope. While they were all fun and games before and after their wedding. During their vows, they stared into each others eyes, and they were very very serious. Their ceremony was actually on the beach at Kawela Bay. Kawela Bay is what we call, The Secret Cove at Turtle Bay. It's about a 30 second drive away from the resort. They actually film certain parts of LOST there. After the ceremony, we shot on the beach, and...of course, we hit the banyon trees and the abandoned building.

Serious for the moment...
It was very easy to get great pictures of Shannon and Melissa. They really couldn't stop laughing. So capturing the moment, was rather simple. They also had their own ideas. I have to say, I have never gotten a request to shoot next to bus stop before... They pitched me their idea that they wanted to wait at the bus stop. I thought it was a fun idea, so on the way back from the abandoned building, we all jumped out of our cars during traffic and snapped this picture.

Love this shot...
So I talked about how creative Shannon and Melissa are. We'll...take a look at this piece of artwork that they did for their wedding announcement. It was inspired by the Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii movie poster. I'm not joking here, they are really talented. I bet their kid will be born with a mouse in one hand, and a brush in the other.

Check out those daisy dukes on Shannon...
Lastly, I realize that a lot of Shannon and Melissa's friends may not believe that they are married. We'll, I can vouch for them. They tied the knot folks. If my word doesn't do it for you, check their tax return. There's a nice tax penalty for all married couples...

Right after the wedding
