Couple: Erica and Matthew Location:
Bayer Estate
Photographers Comments: Erica is by far
one of the most photogenic brides that we had ever shot.
She kinda reminded us of Jessica Simpson. This picture was
Erica's reaction to Matthew's Vows. We used a strong flash
to brighten up the shadow on her face caused by a bamboo
arbor. As a photographer, this shadow bothers me tremendousl
but it just goes to show you, you can't have everything
perfect when shooting outdoors. We also used a zoom lens
to push the background closer to the foreground. Her bridesmaids
were actually standing about 4 feet from her. |

Couple: Erica and Matthew
Location: Bayer Estate
Photographers Comments: You've probably
seen a cut-out version of this shot gracing our website.
No, it's not clip art, actually a bride of ours. This
picture was shot over the shoulder of one of her guest.
If you notice the picture of the horizon is at an angle.
Tilting a picture gives the viewer a sense of vertigo
in most circumstances. But because Erica's left arm is
parallel to the edge of the frame, that off-balanced feeling
is non-existent. So now we get a sense of speed or a panning
motion through the shot.
A lot of photographers tend to abuse the tilt shot. When
done properly, and applied with the use of storytelling
and not effect, tilts always add rather than subtract
from the moment. |

Couple: Erica and Matthew Location:
Sheraton Moana Surfrider
Photographers Comments: The lighting in the
reception room was very unique. There was just enough daylight
in this room to squeeze off a few rounds of shots without
any flash. Yes, this is one of those rare times when a flash
would ruin everything. Daylight poured in from the windows
behind Erica and bounced of the wall behind me, creating the
perfect soft light. Shooting on slide film, I knew that the
sun would create a warm orange feeling to the entire shot.
I waited and waited for the perfect shot, and just by luck,
Erica looked at my camera right out from under Matt's chin.
SNAP and Perfecto! |

Photographers Comments: Another shot on
slide film taken before the dance. It also uses existing
light and no flash. It was shot with a wide angle lens tilted
a little down. That little downward angle adds just a slight
amount of distortion to the picture to make everything a
little more three dimensional. In other words, it adds a
little pop. Too much of a down angle would turn our couple
and their cake into little people. We don't want that.
I truly don't recommend shooting a wedding on slide film.
It can be very expensive and exposure has to be perfect.
I do carry it around just in case lighting conditions are
perfect though. As you can see, the quality is much different
that negative film. |
