I update Facebook, and this one updates immediately through some type of app. The resolution, contrasts, is not as good as I would like it, but you get the picture. If you want really nice resolution, check out my Facebook page by clicking here.  I just don’t have the time to create countless galleries, so it’s easier for me to use this app to update everything.  Hopefully, the resolution/quality changes a bit.  I’m not sure why it looks a little bit pale and blurry…but anyway….

There are tons and tons of photos here.  I have no idea exactly how many.  Thousands!  I took all of them!

YES, IT’S FAKE!

Just to set the record straight, before anyone with a single digit IQ calls me up to ask me if there are dinosaurs in Oahu, let me clarify that yes, there are.  But they only bite if they’re not fed well.  And they tend to not appear if you pay your wedding photographer/planner, who goes by the name of Steve Young, a lot of money.

The two photos pictured here are the first CGI (Computer Graphics Integrated) request I had ever gotten for a wedding.  Earlier this year, there was a wedding photo that went viral on the net of a couple running away from a dinosaur, and I was asked if I could recreate something like that.  I not only agreed, I told my couple I could do it better.

jessica-wells-pictures-shark-153-154 Weddings and Computer Graphics

When it comes to computer graphics, the most common request I receive is to airbrush out a wrinkle or two in a few shots that they want enlarged.  Or I get a request to remove a zit on a nose.  Neither is not a problem, and the price per picture is not high at all.   There are also some brides who want to look skinnier in pictures.  Sometimes that is possible, sometimes it’s not.  While it is true that anything is possible on a computer these days, it’s also essential to understand that not all touch ups can be done convincingly.  Computer graphics is kinda like fake money.   When done well, the audience should not know that it is a a counterfeit.  If it looks fake, it shouldn’t be done at all..

To incorporate any CGI into your wedding package, just let me know.  I don’t have prices listed as they vary for each project.  They can be very cheap, and then they can get fairly expensive.  Just tell me your idea, and I can get you a price.

water-baptism-3 Ocean Baptism.... Three kids got baptized.  This was number one.

BAPTISM BY OCEAN

Yesterday, November 15th, 2013, my company had the great opportunity to baptize three children into the waters of the Pacific Ocean, right off the coast of Magic Island on Oahu.  Reverend Elias Parker performed the baptism and did an awesome job.   If he looks familiar it’s because he is the same minister who also performs 90% of all of my wedding ceremonies.  Elias is a Hawaiian Christian minister who does not preach in a church.  “The world is my church”, he reminds me.  But because Reverend Elias is not associated with a church, water baptisms performed by him do not result in a child belonging to a specific church or religious organization.  Something many cherish.

Dream Weddings Hawaii is obviously, a wedding company.  But every now and then, we sometimes step outside the box to perform other services.  We’ve done a lot of things, from photographing real estate, even top-secret government facilities, to producing television commercials, and now apparently, we do baptisms.  Which isn’t too far of a stretch for us.

water-baptism-2 Ocean Baptism....

Parents watch on as number 2 gets baptized.

water-baptism-1 Ocean Baptism....

Baptized child number 2!

water-baptism-4 Ocean Baptism....

And now for number 3

Elias works extremely well with kids, and this truly was demonstrated during yesterday’s baptism.  His knowledge of children, especially when it came to the safety of dunking a baby underwater, was quite amazing.   He told me that when turning a baby onto its side, they have a tendency to close their mouth.  So when he did this to the baby and it closed its mouth,  he quickly baptized him.  He then blew air into the baby’s face so the baby would open it’s eyes and mouth after he reemerged the child from the ocean.  All of my ministers are this careful, by the way.

Now, we can’t dunk all children.  If the ocean is too rough, or the child is a baby, it’s best not to submerge them into the ocean.

water-baptism-8 Ocean Baptism....After the baptism was over, now it was time for mom to get drenched.

The parents of the children are great clients of my company.  Upon every visit to Hawaii, they do something special.  Earlier this year, their parents go their vows renewed, and they had family portraits taken.   Their entire family loves Oahu as their entire are confessed “surf-aholics.”

water-baptism-6 Ocean Baptism....Mom and son.

water-baptism-5 Ocean Baptism....

I thought about editing those people out in the background, but I didn’t.  That’s their mom and their daughter.  So this candid photo works.

 water-baptism-7 Ocean Baptism....Family photo!

The cost for a package like this varies.   Basically, you’re hiring us for a ministry service, and a small photography package.  It’s important to note here that you have full freedom to customize this package.   You can add more photos, delete photography services altogether, add leis, etc..etc…   But we find it’s best to get family photos of everyone along with the baptism, to record this event.

Also, here’s an interesting note.  Baptisms are not limited to Christian ceremonies.  The family above did not opt to baptize their baby in a Christian ceremony.  This was more of  Hawaiian blessing.

Chrisitan baptisms are much different as they are dedications, not baptisms.   Christians must accept Jesus as their Lord and savior, and then get dunked.  A baby, isn’t old enough to know who Jesus is, so they truly can’t get baptized, even if we go through all the motions.   Jesus was 31 years old when he got dunked, think about that.  He didn’t get baptized as a child.    So if you’re a Christian, just know that we can bless your baby, but it is up to you as a parent to raise that child in a Christian environment, and when that day comes that they want to give their life to Christ, then you can really baptize them in the name of Jesus.

Ministry Services: Ministry service is similar to those you'll find at our wedddings. We can customize this however you wish.$175

Alright, before I get your hopes of seeing some couple decked out like pirates, let me pop your bubble and say, “I did have a wedding on Halloween.  It was just a normal wedding.”

The wedding took place at the Halekoa,  a military hotel that is actually very very nice.  If you’re in the military, you can stay there.  Is it worth it?  Well…  The cost of the rooms vary according to rank.  The higher rank you are, the more you have to pay.  So if you’re a high ranking officer, some of the more luxurious hotels out there are cheaper.

halloween-wedding-in-hawaii-1 Halloween Wedding in Hawaii! If you notice, that’s not my minister that’s marrying them!

This was a last minute booking for me and it was really easy.  All I had to do for this wedding was photography.  The bride’s sister, who is in the military and ordained, conducted the ceremony.  Even though they booked my services a few days before the wedding, this wasn’t that a wedding that was just thrown together at the last minute.  The couple was from Alaska, and they had their family and friends there.  There were  reception plans and even the gazebo at the hotel was booked in advanced.  Booking a professional photographer was one of their last priorities.

Luckily I was available.  Well, lets be clear here.  This is my first Halloween wedding I’ve ever done in my life.  I think I’ll always be available on Halloween.  Hmmm….a Halloween wedding. Now that I think about it, it’s a really cool anniversary date.  Every year, you get to dress up, maybe go to a party, maybe take your kid out trick-or-treating.

halloween-wedding-in-hawiai-2 Halloween Wedding in Hawaii! What you don’t see in this shot is everyone else on Waikiki Beach.  Waikiki Beach is very crowded.  To the left and right behind me, and behind them, in the water are tourist.

Okay…well, it’s Halloween.  I couldn’t finish this post without something Halloween’ish right?

kens-house-halloween Halloween Wedding in Hawaii! Here is my neighbors house!  Pretty awesome huh.

Hope your Halloween went well.  It sucked that Halloween fell on a Thursday instead of  a Friday.  Because it was a school night, the kids didn’t come around that much so I’m left with a big bowl of candy!  The kids these days all go to the malls to get their candy.  I wish they would come through the neighborhood instead.  I think if they did, I would be motivated to create a haunted house and scare the daylights out of them…haha.   I remember when I was a kid, going door-to-door and getting scared out of my wits was part of the joy of Halloween.

Good times…good times.

And they would fly 7000 miles!

Seven-thousand miles, two oceans, two continents, and a delayed flight, was just part of the journey that Chris and Jenny traveled to say their “I do’s” on the shores of Oahu.  The destined couple met, out of all places, at a wedding reception.  Jenny was a little hungry, and Chris offered to buy her a sandwich.  On most regular business days, customer service at this particular venue was exceptional. But for no apparent reason, that sandwich never came.  And because that sandwich never came, Chris and Jenny continued to talk into the night, and then for the rest for their lives.

Can we say for once, “Bravo for bad customer service!”

jenny-and-chris-oahu-wedding-packages-12 Chris and Jenny's Oahu Wedding!Sharing of breaths

Every couple has their reasons for booking with my company, and the main reason why Chris and Jenny booked with me was because of Rev. Elias Parker.  Like most couples of mine, they fell in love with his wedding service.  He’s good, if not the best.

jenny-and-chris-oahu-wedding-packages-3 Chris and Jenny's Oahu Wedding!Did you know that in Europe, instead of saying “cheese” for pictures, they say “yes”

Jenny had two concerns with her wedding photos.

Firstly, she wanted a beach that was secluded.  Kahula bay at Ko’olina is a semi-secluded location.  Right around sunset, the beach “can” get a little crowded with tourist who are trying to photograph the green flash.   Before that, the beach is pretty much empty. Since Chris and Jenny were not looking for sunset pictures, and tying the knot at around 3 pm, the odds of having the beach to ourselves was very high.  Her original choice was actually Sherwoods beach.  But about two days before the wedding, I recommended that we switch locations as the weather at Sherwoods didn’t look too promising.

Jenny’s second concern was that she was scared that she and Chris would look a little too contrasty in the pictures.  I photograph many mixed couples, and when I do, I always recommend shooting on film.  Film has a way of reproducing skin tones accurately.  Digital cameras, even professional digital cameras, have a very difficult time reproducing skin tones of mixed couples accurately, and must be carefully manipulated in post production to create an acceptable image.

All of the photos you see here were shot with 400 ISO Kodak Portra film, and was overexposed by three-quarter of a stop.   Overexposing shots on high quality negative film results in less contrasty, more colorful pictures.  None of the photos here were color corrected.

Film also works well on couples with two different types of skin tones; such as in a case of a Filipino bride who has a nice olive glow to her skin, and a groom who is Caucasian.

jenny-and-chris-oahu-wedding-packages-5 Chris and Jenny's Oahu Wedding!A true testament of the latitude of film.  Shot directly into the sun, full flash on the couple, the whites of her dress are not washed out at all.  Photo is not color corrected.

PERFECT SUNRISE FOR THE PERFECT COUPLE.

I’m not a morning person.   Never was, and I don’t think I never will be.   So when a couple comes knocking on my door with plans for a sunrise wedding, fear strikes me as though I’m about to go over the top of a roller coaster.  But that fear suddenly disappears when I realize that I’m getting paid, and most of all, taking part in a truly special occasion.

Enter Leland and Kathy, a young couple who had a small dilemma.   Kathy wanted sunset photographs, but also wanted to attend the Paradise Cove Luau, which also started at sunset.  She first asked if she could get married at sunrise, and if it were possible to book me for a sunset photography session on another day.   Yes, she could do that.   And I’m pretty sure most wedding companies would agree to this proposition as it meant more money.  But the truth was that she didn’t another session as sunrise photos, pretty much turn out looking like sunset photos.

From there, the plan was set into action.  Kathy would tie the knot in the morning on the east coast, and then head to the west coast for the luau at sunset.

kristin-sunrise-wedding-7 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuBecause we were shooting at sunrise, I recommended that Kathy choose to utilize a mixture of film and digital for her coverage.  This is shot on film.

kristin-sunrise-wedding-5 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuDuring the vows.  Yes.  This is film too.  I’ll let you know when it’s digital.

kristin-sunrise-wedding-4 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuThose are storm clouds in the picture.  They usually head away from the mountains at sunrise.

kristin-sunrise-wedding-6 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuDigital shot.   My 3 video cameras, and the paparazzi gang!

There was no complications with their wedding on the day of their wedding.  In fact, Leland and Kathy, and her family, arrived early.  The only thing that was apparent, everyone was a little groggy, including myself, who only had two hours of sleep from the night before.   I tried to go to sleep early, but I just couldn’t…it happens all the time.

kristin-sunrise-wedding-17 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on Oahu

Back to film.  Film has a natural unprocessed look to making pictures look a little warm.

kristin-sunrise-wedding-16 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuI love that look

kristin-sunrise-wedding-15 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuI think this was the shot that Kathy wanted.  If I told you this was sunset, you’d probably believe me

kristin-sunrise-wedding-14 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuThis is a film shot that is slightly underexposed.  When you do this, it adds a yellowish haze to it.  When you print this on out, it looks quite amazing.  On the computer screen, it’s so-so

kristin-sunrise-wedding-13 Leland and Kathy's Sunrise Wedding on OahuNow the difference between digital and film can be seen here.   When the sun dips behind the clouds, shooting on film is rather useless.  This is why I switched.

Bryant and Helen’s Wedding in Paradise

Most of the destination weddings that I plan are very small get-togethers on the beach.  I would say about 70% of the time, it’s just the bride and the groom.  Then about 20% of the time they have their parents around, and maybe a handful of friends.   Then there is the top 10% of my couples who have abut 20 or so plus people who happen to join in on the fun.  There is no extra cost for more guest.  It all just comes down to finding the right beach, with the right amount of free parking.

Luckily, parking was not an issue for Bryant and Helen as they, as with most of their guest, were staying on the property of Ko olina.

I had met with Bryant and Helen a few days before their wedding to coordinate their precessional and to see what mother nature had in store for us.  I wasn’t really worried about the weather on the day of their wedding, but for the fact that a monk seal had been popping up on the beach in recent days.   When the monk seals pop up, those environmental people show up and cause a lot of havoc, including overstepping their boundaries and closing down large portions of the beach.  For small weddings at Ko olina, it’s not a problem.  You simply walk around the monk seal to the far end of the beach.  For large parties, that’s a little more complicated as you don’t want everyone to walk around to the far end of the beach.

As luck would have it, the monk seal did not pop onto the beach.  In fact, the beach was very empty!    If the monk seal would have beached itself, we would have had the weddings in a small sandy area near the entrance that looked great as well.

bryant-and-helen-wedding-4 Bryant and Helen's Oahu Wedding GalleryMany couples want shots like this.  Lava rock, ocean, palm trees, blue skies.  Ko Olina is probably one of the few places where I can accomplish this.

helen-3 Bryant and Helen's Oahu Wedding GalleryIf you’re wondering why this picture looks a little less warm, a little different than the rest, it’s because it is.  This is a digital shot.  Film has a tendency to look warm, without looking over processed.  You can only tell the difference when you have the pictures side-by-side.

Bryant and Helen also purchased video coverage for their ceremony and the 3 camera upgrade to it.

A Ko Olina Wedding

Lately, my couples have been looking like something out of Rolling Stone Magazine.  In this case, Chad looked like a bass guitarist of a band, and Victoria looked like a certified model off the runway.  Chad and Victoria’s kept things easy.  One and a half  hours of digital photography, a limo, and a minister was all they needed to make this day special.  Simple and romantic, just the way I like it.

Since Chad and Victoria were looking for a combination of both blue sky and sunset photos, and for the fact that their wedding party was rather small, I recommended they make things official at a small cove located near the Ko Olina Resort.   Ko Olina is a private tourist resort that includes first class hotels, golf courses, restaurants and shops.  Think of it as a micro Waikiki on the West Shore.    The beaches there are actually public and free for anyone to swim at.   Behind one of their flagship hotels, the JW Marriott, there is a small cove called Ka’ula Bay that is 100% detached from the resort.  This where weddings I can be legally performed without any resort fee!

Without further delay, are are some of their wedding photos.

Sherwoods-Sunrise-Wedding-4 Sunrise Wedding: Evan and Rosemary tie the knot!Family cell phone photographers, the new trend at every wedding :)

I’m not a morning person, never was, and I don’t think I’ll ever be.  On most days, I stay up burning the midnight oil till around 4 or 5am, and wake up at around 10am to 1pm to start my day.  What can I say?  I’m a nighthawk, possibly half vampire; please don’t compare me to those twilight mascara wearing losers.  Given my crazy sleeping schedule, you can probably figure out that I’m not a big fan of morning weddings.  Yes, they are awesome and filled with incredible photo opportunities; but still, they are not my favorite.

Does that mean I won’t do morning weddings?  Of course I’ll do them!  If it’s your dream, I’m there.  And once I’m up and running, I’ll enjoy every second that I’m there as well!

Enter Evan and Rosemary, an awesome couple who wanted to tie the knot during sunrise here in Oahu. There are only a handful of locations here on Oahu that is perfect for sunrise weddings, and most of them exist on the east coast.   One of the more popular wedding locations on the east coast is Lanikai and Sandy Beach.   Well, I’m not a big fan of either.  Sandy Beach is way too windy; and as for Lanikai, there is this crazy old lady there that loves to break up weddings.  She never managed to break up one of my weddings, but I’ve seen her action.  So Lanikai is out of the picture for me.  Well, for now.  It’s been awhile since I’ve seen her.  Maybe she’s dead?

My favorite location for sunrise weddings is Sherwoods beach.  There’s not crazy old lady, the beach is empty, and the sun rises perfectly next to the mountains, making for awesome pictures.

Evan and Rosemary’s wedding was small.  I believe only their parents and close relatives were in attendance.

On a side-note: Evan’s looks really reminded me of one my favorite quarterbacks of all time, Donovan Mcnabb.  The only difference is that Evan looked a lot skinnier, and is a lot more photogenic.  His fiancé, Rosemary, looked as though she walked off of a magazine cover.   Two good looking people and perfect weather, made it very easy for me to snap of great photos in the morning.  That worked out well, because my brain only functions at 70% at 6am.

Julie… still is in charge

JULIE AND ERNIE RENEW THEIR VOWS AFTER 30 YEARS

Did I ever tell you that I love vow renewals?  In fact, now that I really think about it, I love it “just a tad bit” more than weddings themselves.   Why do I love them so much?   Well marriage, especially lately, has been bombarded with negative propaganda.

University professors have repeatedly stated that it is scientifically impossible to believe that one man and one woman, can live happily ever after.   “It’s a fairy tell they say!”   In the newspaper, it’s quoted over and over again that marriage has a 50% failure rate (if you factor in the idiots and celebrities that get married).   A survey once found that the majority of college students believed that marriage was an “inherently oppressive institution.”  (Well, I’m glad those kids surveyed are really getting a good dose of “stupid” in college)

The reason why I love vow renewals is because it proves the naysayers…wrong.

Enter Julie and Ernie, a couple who defied the odds, broke all the rules, and proved to every arrogant anti-marriage snot picking scientist out there, that marriage can and does work.  In fact, it works quite beautifully.

Julie-North-Shore-Vow-Renewal-1 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!

Julie and Ernie met in high school at a surprise birthday, got married right out of high school, then went on to raise two beautiful daughters.

Julie says, “Although I certainly won’t recommend that any 18 & 19 year olds get married and immediately start a family, 29 years later we wouldn’t change a thing.  Our daughters are beautiful, self-sufficient young ladies, and Ernie and I are truly enjoying our “empty nest” status in our mid/late 40’s and looking forward to the next 29 years!”

Julie-North-Shore-Vow-Renewal-2 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!that’s sweet isn’t it.

Julie-North-Shore-Vow-Renewal-3 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!there was a best woman at the ceremony, not a best man.

If I had to choose one thing that I loved about Ernie and Julie, it was their high-level-100%-energy. Scientists would have you believe that after 30 years of marriage and two kids, the love, that energy that existed in high school would have all but disappeared.  I would tell those dorky scientist with a backhand to the temple, that they were wrong.  Ernie and Julie were one the most energetic couples I had ever photographed.

And it showed in the pictures:

Julie-North-Shore-Vow-Renewal-5 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!there is just absolutely no way to pose this stuff.

Julie-North-Shore-Vow-Renewal-4 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!another pose, you can’t pose

julie-north-4 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!a laugh you can’t script.

julie-north-2 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows! okay, this is posed.

julie-north-5 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!and that is posed.  I know what you’re thinking.  The natural ones are better.  I agree

julie-north-1 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!I love this shot.

julie-north-3 High School Sweethearts Renew their Vows!and that’s a happy and successful family

A brainy college kid once asked me, “What’s the point to marriage anyway?”  I stared down at him through his arrogant shades and said, “To raise a family.  A good family.”

A good family, is also the answer to the question, “Do I have a successful marriage?”  In this case, Ernie and Julie do, as their daughters have grown up to become outstanding individuals.

29 more good years is what Julie asked for.  She’ll definitely get more than that.
