My view on same-sex marriage has changed throughout my life. \u00a0I attended a Southern-Baptist Christian School in Hawaii which preached “The Sins of Same-Sex Marriage and Same-Sex Relationships” \u00a0We were taught as kids that same-sex couples who fell in love with each other were going to hell. \u00a0I know what you’re thinking, that form of teaching is “a little” radical.\u00a0 I tend to agree.\u00a0 It could even be considered hateful.<\/p>\n
So where do I stand now? \u00a0Here’s a quick Q & A that will answer of your questions.<\/p>\n
Are you, Steven Young, gay?<\/strong><\/p>\n Nope.\u00a0 I\u2019m 100% straight as an arrow.<\/p>\n Are you religious?<\/strong><\/p>\n I don’t go to church. \u00a0I watch football on Sundays. \u00a0But, I am a God-fearing Christian who believes Jesus Christ is awesome, all-powerful, and has paid the ultimate sacrifice so a sinner like you and me can go to heaven.<\/p>\n Do you believe that gays are sinners?<\/strong><\/p>\n They are most definitely sinners! \u00a0But so am I, a heterosexual! \u00a0So are you! \u00a0So is that minister preaching in his church on Sunday morning? \u00a0Everyone is a sinner.\u00a0 I find it ironic that many Christians act as though they are above other sins.<\/p>\n Is a gay lifestyle a sin?<\/strong><\/p>\n Biblically, one can definitely make the argument that a same-sex lifestyle is very sinful.\u00a0 But let\u2019s also not forget, that biblically, a heterosexual lifestyle is also very sinful.<\/p>\n Do you believe gays are going to hell?<\/strong><\/p>\n I am not going to sit on the White Throne and do Jesus\u2019 job for him.\u00a0 I can\u2019t even tell you if a minister is going to heaven or hell.\u00a0 I can\u2019t even tell if you, or I, are going to heaven or hell. So that answer is way above my pay grade.\u00a0 I’m a wedding planner!<\/p>\n Why do you perform gay weddings?\u00a0 Were you forced to do so by a lawsuit or the State?<\/strong><\/p>\n My company has been performing same-sex marriages five years before they were legalized in Hawaii.\u00a0 There is something on the books that states that ministers and wedding companies have to perform same-sex weddings.\u00a0 I don\u2019t agree with that law, purely on the basis of Freedom of Speech.\u00a0 A company should be allowed to choose who they do business with. \u00a0A company should be allowed to offend. \u00a0 Quite frankly, I do turn down business from couples and it has to do nothing with their sexual preference.\u00a0 If a client shows hints of being a Bridezilla, I\u2019m not accepting their business.\u00a0 I do same-sex weddings because I want to.\u00a0 It’s really as simple as that.<\/p>\n Do you think a same-sex couple is gross?<\/strong><\/p>\n Nope.\u00a0 I do find over-the-top public displays of affection inappropriate and gross.\u00a0 I don\u2019t care what their orientation is.\u00a0 Don’t you hate it when you’re at a park or a movie theater and a couple is just eating each other’s faces?\u00a0 Man, that’s horrible.\u00a0 Get a room.<\/p>\n Do you think same-sex couples can raise good children?<\/strong><\/p>\n Raising children has nothing to do with a parent\u2019s sexuality.\u00a0\u00a0 They can do a good job or a horrible one.<\/p>\n Do you think same-sex couples are prone to divorce more than heterosexual couples?<\/strong><\/p>\n Nope.\u00a0 \u00a0Same-sex couples are regular couples.\u00a0 They are going to run into the same problems as regular couples.\u00a0 And it’ll take hard work to keep that relationship, new, alive, and fresh, like any other relationship.<\/p>\n Any last words on gay marriage?<\/strong><\/p>\n Legal marriage should not exist.\u00a0 It still bugs me to this very day why a couple needs a marriage license to tie the knot.\u00a0 Married couples unfairly get taxed more, and unfairly get tax breaks.\u00a0 In a way, if you really think about it, marriage, in the eyes of the government, has a lot to do with taxes and citizenship.\u00a0 If we fix immigration and fix our tax code, legal marriage should become something of the past. \u00a0Let people live. \u00a0Let them marry who they want to marry. \u00a0And if they want to marry more than one wife or husband, let them do that too.<\/p>\n Is anti-gay-marriage speech, hate speech?<\/strong><\/p>\n It seems that if you disagree with anything these days, you are considered a hater. \u00a0I honestly just disagree with the entire theory of hate speech. \u00a0A person’s statement may be offensive and hurtful, but do they actually hate?<\/p>\n Most institutions or companies that do not cater to same-sex couples are not filled with hate. \u00a0If you view it through their eyes, they want a same-sex couple to be straight, so those strangers can receive eternal life. \u00a0That’s not hating. \u00a0If anything, they are guilty of loving too much, and not thinking about how their actions are hurting those that they want to help.\u00a0 A little bit of irony
