North Shore waves could get as large as 70 feet
ALL ABOUT HAWAII CONTINUED
SURF'S UP! One thing you should know about Hawaii is the surf. It's awesome, it's inspiring, it's also deadly. The number one rule I tell all my couples, is that you never ever take romantic walks on the beach unless you're in Waikiki . See, there are basically two types of waves. You have your regular waves that break far out from shore, then you have our shore-break. And shore-break, can come suddenly, very large, and like the angel of death, swoop you into the ocean during that romantic walk. Every so often in the news you hear about a couple who had a romantic walk on the beach at night on the North Shore, and well…they're no longer here.
Now I realize that many of you would probably want to try to surf here in Hawaii as well. If you do want to try it, head down to Waikiki , and buy surf lessons. Don't just pop on the board, and try to go. Even if you're a great swimmer, there are things you need to learn about surfing: everything from being safe, riding techniques, and surfing etiquette.
If you want see big waves. They happen right around winter when all the storms in the Pacific Ocean start brewing. Waves on the North Shore can get up to 50 to 70 feet. That's pretty amazing.

Yes, I actually shoot food stuff as well. This is ahi...it's really good
FOOD!!! Hawaii is known for hula, Kona Coffee, it's culture, it's weather, but one thing that goes unnoticed, is it's food. Now, I'm not talking about the gourmet junk that comes out of here. Pacific island cuisine taste like garbage; Asian-fusion food, give me a break; their food is expensive, portions small, and flavor sour. Great food here in Hawaii is culture rich food. You can find probably the best Korean, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese food, right here. Not to mention, Hawaiian food. If you want to taste great food, the best place to start is by talking to your valet guy. Get to know them well, tip them big, and let them spill the local secrets. Forget the concierge; they just want to sell you activities and restaurants that they'll get a commission on. Your valet is your best bet.
On a side note: Food in Hawaii is very delicious. I wouldn't be surprised if you gain a few pounds while you're down here! Don't worry, you'll lose the pounds when you head back home.

CRIME. Crime in Hawaii is very low, but it's still there. Remember to never keep any valuables in your car. Never keep your wedding photos in your car. I've had three wedding couples who didn't listen and their photos got stolen…they are gone forever. Treat those photos, especially your negatives, like the Mona Lisa. If there is a safe in your hotel room, use it! Practice common sense, and you'll be just fine.
RACISM IN HAWAII ? Now this is a touchy subject that most other companies won't touch. But is there racism in Hawaii ? The answer is “yes” and “no.” I can honestly say that racism against Caucasians do exist here in Hawaii , but its practice is kept to a bare minimum, and only the ignorant and uneducated practice this literal stupidity. We are all predominately Asian here in Hawaii , and Caucasians are the minority. You may have heard of the term “Haole” pronounced, How-lee. And many times it is referenced to people of fair skin. But the truth of it all, it is a term used to describe the selfish homo-sapiens, the one who only cares for himself; the one who prefers his own needs and wants over others. Locals can even be considered haole, if they travel to the mainland, then move back to Hawaii , just to become selfish individuals.
You'll find the majority of the people here on the islands, ready to invite you into their family without a drop of hesitation. Bump into the right person, and you'll get invited to their house, his kid's birthday or graduation party. The majority of the people here are that friendly.
