HOW TO GET YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE
Obtaining your marriage license in Hawaii is quite simple. In fact, it's so simple; I really don't have to write much on how to get it!
-
there is no required blood test
-
there is no waiting period after you get your license to get married
-
there is no waiting period to get your marriage license, there is no waiting period at all
-
If you have been married before, all you need is the date of your divorce decree. You don't need your actual decree.
-
You don't need to be a U.S. Resident to get a marriage license.
To get your marriage license, head down to the Department of Health during working hours (8am-4pm M-F). The fee to get your license is $60 fee and must be paid in cash, US Dolllars, no foreign currency. You and your fiancé will all need an official form of picture identification. A driver's license does the trick, passport, State ID, etc..etc..
There is an area where you will need to put your marriage performers name, and you can leave that line item blank. Trust me.
And…that's it!!!
For more information, a printable application, you can visit the Department of Health's website by clicking here: http://www.hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/marriage/index.html
The application found online via this link, IS NOT YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE. It's only the application, which, by the way, you can get at the department of health. So there's really no need to print the online application out.
WHAT IF I NEED TO GET MY MARRIAGE LICENSE ON A WEEKEND OR HOLIDAY?
If you need to get your marriage license on a weekend, off-hours, or on a holiday, you can get in contact with an independent wedding agent. I have their contact phone numbers and can email them to you. If you have booked your services with me, you will find their information on the emailed invoice which I sent you originally.
rough waters make for great photos...
THE NEXT STEP FROM HERE…GETTING HITCHED…OFFICIALLY!
Well, once you exit the Department of Health you will have your marriage license. Bring that marriage license to your wedding, and after we perform your ceremony our minister will then make everything official by having you sign your marriage license. He will then fill in his side of the paperwork, and wha-lah, you are officially married!
GETTING YOUR MARRIAGE “CERTIFICATE”
Your official marriage certificate will arrive in the mail within 120 working days of your wedding. Now for some couples that's okay. For me and for you, that's most likely not acceptable. So to expedite your marriage license between 14 to 21 working days, send in the green paper that you will receive when you apply for your marriage license. This “holy of green papers” plus a “holy ten dollars” will make our hard working state employees process your marriage license a lot faster.
If you're taking your fiancé's last name, opening new bank accounts, getting new driver's license, transferring insurance coverage, you name it, you'll need this marriage certificate fast to validate your new name.
*for those of you who are international customers, same rules apply!!!*
IF YOU'RE OUT OF COUNTRY
Our marriages here in Hawaii will be legal in your country. Make sure you tell your registrar which country you are from, and they will make sure they will send the appropriate paperwork to you, so you can have your marriage legally recognized in your home country…..
MARRIAGE LICENSE PROCESSING?
THE SCAM!!! BRIDE BEWARE!!!
So now is where you ask, “Steve, why don't you include marriage license processing in your packages likes the other wedding companies do?” And this is where I answer, "It's because marriage license processing is a scam."
The only office that can “process” that marriage license into a marriage certificate, is the Department of Health. I can't do it. Niether can my competitors.
My competitors create the “marriage license processing service” to puff up their packages to create a facad of added services which legally, their minsiter should provide for free. Some companies charge you an extra $100 dollars for marriage license processing. After signing your marriage license, the minister is obligated by the State of Hawaii to mail that marriage license to the Department of Health. The wedding company does not touch the marriage license at all. It doesn't even mail it. So, as you can see, the service line of "Marriage License Processing" is a scam.
