Couple: Tenea and Xanda
Location: Hidden Cove at Ko'Olina
Photographers Comments: This is an intimate
cove hidden behind the JW Marriot Ihilani. Not many tourist
know about it making it a great place to tie the knot. This
photo was rather simple to take. It is basically your standard
walk on the sand shot. Most aspiring and professional photographers
tend to shoot this type of shot in a PORTRAIT FORMAT rather
than LANDSCAPE. Remember, landscape shots reveal much more. |

Couple: Sharina
and Shiv
Location: Waimanalo Beach
Photographers Comments: Shiv and Sharina
were a blast to work with. The sky was clear, water... a
perfect turquoise blue. The only thing...the winds were
blowing gust up to around 15mph! Yes, it was definitely
a windy day! To combat this problem, we had Sharina walk
towards the wind. We used a nice zoom lens to push the background
close to the subject and a strong flash to get rid of all
their shadows. This picture would blow up beautifully to
20x30, and would be the perfect picture to mount on their
mantle. |

Couple: Macedonia
and Jimmy
Location: Hidden Cove at Ko'Olina
Photographers Comments: This picture is
a little harder to take than it looks. First of all, I would
like to comment on the storm clouds that are moving in (Don't
they look like alien ships from Independence Day? hahah!).
Seriously, alot of times, you want a little storm clouds
as the colors that reflect in them are incredible. Just
the right amount does wonders. Secondly, we had to balance
the amount of light from our flash to make sure it filled
in her son, our minister as well, and under Jimmy's hat.
The worse thing we could possibly do would be to create
a huge shadow under Jimmy's hat that would blanket both
couples. To get this shot, we used a bare bulb flash positioned
eye level and high-speed film. Works like a charm every
time. This was their first kiss after they were pronounced
husband and wife.

Couple: Yves
and Thalassia
Location: Magic Island/Ala Moana Beach
Park
Photographers Comments: Silhouette shots
are relatively easy to take. Basically turn off your flash
and take a meter reding off the background. Mother nature
makes it difficult. A lot of it has to do with luck though
as you pray for the right lighting. This shot was done after
sunset. Everything was perfect. See, after sunset the sky
has a tendency to cast a color of light that makes certain
films see purple. The tide had just retracted as well, leaving
an milimeter of water on the beach and a remarkable reflection
of the sky. Seizing the moment, I got Yves and Thalassia
to kiss and to hold this shot while I bracketed my shots.
Bracketing means to shoot the same shot at different exposure
rates to guarantee that at least one shot will come out
perfect. We were lucky...all of them came out perfect. |
